The SHA has contracted with New England Communities, Inc. to advise on on project permitting and financing for this expansion.. Marc Slotnick, the President of NECI, is the former Associate Director of the Massachusetts Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD), the state agency which oversees the construction of affordable housing throughout the Commonwealth and is currently consulting with several local housing authorities across the state in an effort to assist communities in providing additional affordable housing opportunities. The existing George Fernandes Way property consists of 12 unit townhouse style units of 2-3 bedrooms each. Preliminary plans for the next phase include 24 additional 1-3 bedroom units for elderly and handicapped residents, as well as low to moderate income families. This project is expected to be built with a combination of Government loans, state subsidies, tax credits, CPA Funds, and private financing. Once the financial structure has been finalized, the SHA will be presenting a request for CPA funding to the Community Preservation Review Committee as well as Town Meeting for their approval. Once constructed, this project would be owned and operated by the Sandwich Housing Authority. |
